Kate Beckinsale bursts into tears as she reveals sad reason behind weight loss
Kate Beckinsale was left in tears as she hit back at cruel trolls who have been targeting her appearance. The actress, 52, took to social media to slam those who have been commenting on her new look. And she was emotional as she explained the sad reason behind her dramatic weight loss. On Instagram, she said she had had a “really, really hard year”.

It comes as she lost her mum, Judy Loe, earlier in the year. The 73-year-old died after a cancer diagnosis. And it’s this devastation that Kate says is behind her weight loss. In her upload, Kate says how her mum’s death, as well as the loss of her stepfather a year earlier, led to her “body to close down”. Clearly upset, Kate was seen wiping away her tears. She continued: “‘2025 was a really, really hard year. It was also the last year that my incredible mum was on this planet. So I feel really torn about letting go of it as well.”

She went on: “But I just wanted to address the fact that I lost my stepfather a while ago, a couple years ago. And I already watched my father die because my mum was in the hospital and it was just me at the age of five.
“I watched my 31-year-old father die of a huge heart attack, and then I watched my stepfather die, and I watched my mother degenerate and die. Such an incredible amount of suffering and what I will say, it doesn’t make you feel very hungry.”
Kate said she didn’t know if she was feeling “survivor’s guilt” because her loss of hunger started after her stepdad died. She said: “It’s not like anorexia, where you’re starving, and it’s a kind of willpower thing. It’s like your body has closed down. I think it’s shock and trauma.

She ended by saying: “I think watching, especially alone, the people you love the most dearly suffer and have horrific and sometimes violent and awful deaths, really makes you not hungry.”
Earlier this year, Kate shared the sad news that her mum had died. On July 15, she took to Instagram to confirm her death. At the time, she said she was ‘paralysed’ with grief.
While mum Judy’s cause of death wasn’t confirmed at the time, the actress said she had been dealing with stage four cancer for two years. Kate said in the heartbreaking post: “Dearest Mama. The fact that you have had to have a funeral at all is wrong and ludicrous.

“You are the biggest lover of life, the most energetic, the most vital, the most joyous. The only mandate you gave me over the years was that you wanted a celebration of your life and that no one was to wear black so no one did.
“What I did not anticipate, particularly the night before the funeral where I got two hours sleep on a hard sofa and very much considered not being able to attend because I was afraid I couldn’t handle it, was that someone would be able to have a funeral that was so full of love and happiness and joy, which is all because of you and who you are and what you brought.
“You are a bridge builder, a hoarder of love, an archiver of precious history ,of respect for years of friendship and my God that showed. I think the hardest thing I have ever had to do was say goodbye to you and I haven’t managed it yet, I still reach for my phone in the early hours of the morning to text you and then realise that I won’t get a response. ”
And she added: “The funeral and the party which I will not call a wake afterwards, and which I very much feel you attended in some vaporous way blew the f***ing roof off Chiswick House.”
